Frequently asked questions

Yes. By Farr is widely regarded as one of Australia's leading fine wine producers with wines like the Sangreal and Tout Pres from the estate feature in the Langton's Classification of Australian Wine, reflecting their long-term demand and collectability.

Sangreal Pinot Noir, Tout Près Pinot Noir and GC Chardonnay are often the most tightly allocated wines, although the flagship By Farr Chardonnay and Farrside Pinot Noir are also highly sought after by collectors.

Most By Farr wines benefit from time in the cellar. Chardonnay typically ages comfortably for 10-15 years, while the top Pinot Noirs can continue to evolve for 15-25 years or more in strong vintages.

By Farr combines Burgundian winemaking philosophy with the unique climate and soils of Geelong's Moorabool Valley, producing wines that emphasise vineyard expression, structure and longevity.

The comparison comes from philosophy rather than flavour. Single vineyard sites, whole bunch fermentation, natural ferments and a focus on site expression all reflect approaches commonly associated with great Burgundy producers.

Production remains relatively small and demand consistently exceeds supply. Many collectors purchase annually through allocations, leaving limited quantities available through retailers.

The Langton's Classification is widely regarded as Australia's leading classification of collectible wines. Inclusion is based on factors such as reputation, demand, performance and collectability over time.

While the wines can be enjoyed on release, many collectors prefer to cellar them to allow additional complexity, texture and savoury characteristics to develop over time.
