Access & allocations

Some wines aren’t always available. Many of the world’s most sought-after bottles are released in limited allocations.

TradingGrapes works with producers and distributors to help collectors access wines as they become available.

Some bottles are opened and enjoyed today.
Others are cellared for years.
And a small number become highly collectible wines recognised by collectors around the world.

Demand is global, supply is limited - which is why access matters.

Common allocation regions include:
Bordeaux
Burgundy
Champagne
Barolo & Barbaresco
Cult Australian producers

Why some wines are allocated

Many sought-after wines are produced in very small volumes and distributed through long-standing relationships.

Access is often based on demand, reputation, and consistency - not simply price.

Collectors who follow producers over time are more likely to receive allocations as availability improves.

When wines become collectible

Most wines are made to be enjoyed within a few years.

However, a small number develop exceptional reputation, demand, and longevity. Over time these wines become widely recognised as collectible or investment-grade wines.

These wines often share several characteristics:

  • limited production
  • strong critical reputation
  • global demand from collectors
  • the ability to age for decades

As bottles are opened and consumed around the world, supply gradually declines - which can make the remaining bottles more valuable to collectors.

Examples often come from regions such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Barolo, and a small number of cult Australian producers.

How collectible wines move through the market

Fine wine moves through the market over time.

Many of the world's most sought-after wines are first released through producers and distributors in limited quantities. As bottles are opened and consumed, the remaining supply gradually becomes harder to find.

Collectors and restaurants often rely on trusted sources to access these wines again in the future.

TradingGrapes works with producers and distributors to help collectors access new releases and back-vintage wines as they become available.

How notifications work

When you register interest, we'll notify you if and when a wine becomes available.

Interest helps us prioritise sourcing over time, but availability is never guaranteed.

Building a wine collection

Many collectors build their cellars over time - buying wines to drink now, cellar for later, and occasionally collect.

Access to allocations, storage conditions, and timing can all influence the wines that become part of a long-term collection.

TradingGrapes is designed to support that journey.

Building a collection

Sourcing collectible wine over time

Most serious collections are built gradually - wines to drink now, bottles to cellar for later, and a small number of highly collectible releases acquired through allocation. TradingGrapes is designed to support that process, with access to both current stock and wines available on request through our network.
