The 2022 Grosset Rockwood Wild Shiraz is a cool-climate curveball from one of Australia’s most respected producers. Sourced from a high-altitude site in the central Clare Valley, this is Shiraz with serious edge—more elegance and spice than jam and weight.

Fermented with wild yeasts and bottled without fining or filtering, it’s as pure and untamed as the name suggests. Expect dark cherry, black pepper, violet and earthy spice, framed by fine tannins and vibrant acidity.

Grosset

Made without crushing the shiraz berries or the addition of yeast, the grapes were allowed to commence ferment spontaneously. Bottled without fining or time in oak, this is a truly wild ferment wine made with the minimum of intervention, the success of this approach most likely due at least in part, to biodynamics.

Restrained mulberry, black cherry, bramble notes, supple, fleshy texture yet quite tight and very fine. It is very smooth in the mid-palate yet with a firmness that gives restraint without detracting. This Grosset Shiraz flows effortlessly on to a finish that is long and subtle. Wild and absolutely delicious.

This wine will benefit from decanting to better develop and integrate flavours and aromas.
