The 2023 Henschke Henry’s Seven isn’t your average Barossa red. It’s a modern take on the classic GSM blend—Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro—with a splash of Viognier adding lift and perfume. 

Named after ancestor Henry Evans, a pioneer of Barossa winemaking in the 1850s, this wine honours tradition while showing just how vibrant and layered Barossa blends can be. 

Expect juicy dark berries, plum and aniseed, with hints of violet, pepper and spice. It’s plush, bright, and incredibly drinkable, with just enough structure to reward cellaring. 

A great way to experience Henschke pedigree—without the flagship price tag.

What the experts say about this wine

A combination of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro with a smidgeon of the aromatic Viognier coming to play on the nose and then a little on the palate. It’s typically bright and spicy with plush smooth and supple medium- bodied fruit flavours. Juicy and delicious.

Aromas of cherries, wild blackberries, violets, cassia bark and earth. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of Damson plums, mocha, dried herbs and spices. A balanced and refined blend of 81% shiraz, 11% grenache, 6% mataro and 2% viognier from a cool vintage. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Deep dark colour with a rich ripe and plush nose of black plums and cherries, the palate full bodied and fleshy, seductively smooth and supple in texture, with good length and loads of appeal. Drinks well now but there is no hurry.
