Immich-Batterieberg Mosel Zeppwingert Riesling 2018

Mosel Riesling at its most concentrated and textural 🍋⚡

Immich-Batterieberg is one of the oldest estates in the Mosel (dating back to the 9th century), and is famous for ultra-traditional, low-intervention Riesling grown on impossibly steep slate terraces. Zeppwingert is one of the standout single vineyards: ancient, ungrafted vines growing on red slate. These old vines produce tiny berries with incredible flavour density, giving the wine both power and mineral precision.

2018 was a warmer vintage, and you feel that generosity in the glass: ripe citrus, stone fruit, all carried by a deep slate-driven backbone. There’s richness up front, but it finishes tense and mineral — the hallmark of top Mosel terroir.

What the experts say about this wine

Deep, spicy nose with great apricot, then stunning concentration on the generous and texturally complex palate, right through the very long finish. This is very sophisticated, almost dry riesling with a unique style. Would greatly reward considerable further aging.

Aged on the lees for 18 months, the 2018 Enkircher Zeppwingert Riesling is very intense and concentrated on the nose. Slightly caramelly on the palate, this is a fresh, pure, crystalline and finely tannic Riesling.
