A rising star with DRC pedigree 🍷✨
What do Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), Domaine G. Roumier, Newton Johnson, and By Farr have in common? They’ve all shaped the winemaking of Louis Billard—one of the most exciting new names in Burgundy.
Louis spent 2018 and 2019 at DRC, working with the absolute best in Vosne-Romanée, the most legendary Pinot Noir village in the world. He followed that with stints at Roumier in Chambolle-Musigny (2020), Newton Johnson in South Africa (2021), and By Farr in Australia (2022). In other words, he’s learned from the greatest winemakers across three continents—and now, he’s bringing that expertise back home.
The 2023 Louis Billard Chambolle-Musigny captures that signature style beautifully. Fermented in ex-DRC barrels, the wine opens with lifted aromas of wild raspberry, rose petal, violets, and subtle spice before unfolding into layers of red cherry, fine tannins, and silky texture.
Compared to the darker, spicier power often found in Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny is all about elegance and precision, producing wines collectors often describe as the most “feminine” and graceful in Burgundy.
A future icon in the making - Louis Billard is a name to watch (and a wine to collect).
