A rising star with DRC pedigree 🍷✨Â
What do Domaine de la RomanĂ©e-Conti (DRC), Domaine G. Roumier, Newton Johnson, and By Farr have in common? They’ve all shaped the winemaking of Louis Billard—one of the most exciting new names in Burgundy.Â
Louis spent 2018 and 2019 at DRC, working with the absolute best in Vosne-RomanĂ©e, the most legendary Pinot Noir village in the world. He followed that with stints at Roumier in Chambolle-Musigny (2020), Newton Johnson in South Africa (2021), and By Farr in Australia (2022). In other words, he’s learned from the greatest winemakers across three continents—and now, he’s bringing that expertise back home.Â
The 2023 Louis Billard Gevrey-Chambertin showcases a different side of Burgundy to his Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-RomanĂ©e wines. Gevrey is known for producing some of the CĂ´te de Nuits’ most structured and age-worthy Pinot Noir, combining dark fruit, earth, spice, and savoury depth with impressive longevity.Â
Fermented in ex-DRC barrels, the 2023 opens with aromas of black cherry, wild blackberry, forest floor, violets, and subtle spice. On the palate, there’s more structure and grip than Louis’ more delicate village wines, but still with the silky texture and precision that defines his style.Â
A future icon in the making - Louis Billard is a name to watch (and a wine to collect).Â
