Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2023

Elevated Shiraz with Highland flair 🍇⛰️

The 2023 Torbreck The Struie is a blend of Barossa and Eden Valley Shiraz—showcasing both power and poise from some of South Australia's most prized highland vineyards. It’s named after a mountain in Scotland, a nod to Torbreck’s Scottish roots, but the wine is unmistakably Australian in character.

Fruit from the Barossa provides plush black fruits and density, while the Eden Valley component (grown at 400m+ elevation) brings bright acidity, spice, and lift. It’s matured for 18 months in seasoned French oak, allowing purity and structure to shine.

The result? A layered and elegant Shiraz with notes of dark plum, blackberry, violets, graphite, and peppery spice—wrapped in fine, powdery tannins and a long, savoury finish.

Balanced, age-worthy, and always in demand, The Struie is a flagship expression of modern Barossa Shiraz—refined, not restrained.

What the experts say about this wine

A lovely balance of Eden Valley spices and Barossa power and strength, with aromas of blackberries, graphite, olive tapenade, violets and purple fruit. The palate is full-bodied with a velvety texture, ultra-fine tannins and flavors of mulberries, mint, pomegranates, cured meat and dark chocolate. A silken finish for this excellent release from a cool vintage. Drink or hold.

The 2023 The Struie is a blend from Eden and Barossa, melding the higher altitude austerity and structure of Eden with the density and muscle of the Barossa. I like this wine, because if you sit with it for long enough, you can clearly see the component parts side by side. The whole makes the understanding of the parts. You get the blueberry, black cherry, licorice, crushed quartz, aniseed and dark chocolate of Eden married to the bloody, earthy, gritty muscle of Barossa. Awesome. 15% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and wax. Drink 2025-2038.
