Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco DOC 2022

Vietti is a name to know in Italian wine. It’s one of the few iconic producers to own Cru vineyards across all the major Barolo communes—making it a serious player when it comes to top-tier Piedmont wines.

Their single-vineyard Barolos like the Castiglione DOCG are highly collectible and come with the price tag to match. But for a more approachable entry point, the Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco DOC offers incredible value.

Here’s the secret: it’s made from the same grapes as their Barolo DOCG, but classified under the Langhe DOC, Italy’s second-highest wine classification. Why? Because it’s not aged as long. That small technicality means you get Barolo-quality fruit, at a fraction of the price.

You can thank Italian wine law for this one—top-shelf Nebbiolo without the wait or the wallet hit 🍷

What the experts say about this wine

Alcoholic fermentation lasts approximately 3-4 weeks at a temperature of 28°-32°C. Malolactic fermentation follows in steel and/or barriques. All the vineyards are vinified and aged separately. After malolactic fermentation, the refinement continues in wood (barriques and large barrels) for approximately 18-20 months, at the end of which the wine is assembled in steel for bottling.

Hints of raspberry, blackcurrant, mint and spices. Round and elegant tannins add to a long and refined finish. Robust, intense, powerful when young; complex and elegant with age.
