Dappled Appellation Pinot Noir 2024

Cool-climate class, without the cult price đđż
Dappled is the brainchild of Shaun Crinionânamed Young Gun of Wine in 2018 and recognised as James Hallidayâs Best New Winery the same year. Since then, heâs quietly built one of the Yarra Valleyâs most exciting small-scale labels, with wines that overdeliver on every front.
The 2024 Appellation Pinot Noir is a blend of high-elevation sites across the Yarra Valley, all hand-picked and wild-fermented with whole bunches for lift and spice. Itâs silky and vibrant, with layers of cherry, raspberry, forest floor, and gentle oak. Tannins are fine, acidity is fresh, and the balance? Spot on.
Elegant, expressive, and wildly good valueâthis is a go-to Yarra Pinot that's punching well above its price tag.

What the experts say about this wine
Dappled
A blend of three Upper Yarra Pinot sites in Macclesfield, Gladysdale and Steels Creek. All natural ferments with 25% whole bunch plus an average of 15-20 days on skins. Aged for 10 months in French oak Barriqueâs and Puncheons (10% new). Bottled by gravity, un-fined and unfiltered.
Tasting notes: Pale Ruby red colour in the glass with scents of raspberries, cranberry, earth and wood smoke. Thereâs a gentle whole bunch element coming into play - more like a herb garden than a vegetal character. The palate is delicate and plush with cherry cola and beetroot flavours, and the tannins are very fine. The wine finishes with fresh delicate acidity. Drinking fantastic now, but will be even better in 2-5 years.
